
European Transfeu project: a new method for measuring smoke toxicity - November 2010
Coordinated by LNE and involving 21 partners in 10 countries, the European Transfeu project aims to develop the EN 45 545 standard covering fire safety of materials used in rail transport. Following 18 months work, the project has achieved its first objective by finalizing a method for measuring smoke toxicity. Details are published in a second newsletter reviewing progress made so far.

LNE/G-MED America launches its own website - May, 2010
Set up in Washington DC five years ago to promote LNE's services in the medical field, the LNE/G-MED America subsidiary has stepped up a gear and launched its own website. Its North American customers now have full access to all of LNE's services – testing, certification, training, etc. – in the fields of housing/construction, transport, and consumer products.

Three European inspection and testing organisations join forces for increased product safety - April, 2010
In his capacity as President of EUROLAB (European Federation of National Associations of Measurement, Testing and Analytical Laboratories), LNE Managing Director Jean-Luc Laurent has signed cooperation agreements with CEOC (International Confederation of Inspection and Certification Organisations) and EFNDT (European Federation for Non-Destructive Testing).

Ensuring the safety of lighters - April, 2010
In March 2010 LNE became one of only two European laboratories authorized to issue the German GS mark for disposable gas-filled cigarette lighters. This quality mark requires child-resistance tests to be performed in addition to mechanical tests.
