Ensuring the safety of lighters - April 2010
In March 2010 LNE became one of only two European laboratories authorized to issue the German GS mark for disposable gas-filled cigarette lighters. This quality mark requires child-resistance tests to be performed in addition to mechanical tests.
The German Ministry of Employment issued this recognition following LNE's accreditation by COFRAC for its mechanical tests on lighters (standard ISO 9994) and the signature of an agreement between LNE and American test laboratory Milford, which is recognized by the European Commission for tests with sample groups of children (standard EN 13869).
LNE also tests other types of lighters and provides a wide range of services to ensure they meet standards before being placed on the market.
