Legal metrology - LNE notified for the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID)

• On 30 June 2006, LNE was designated by the European Commission as a Notified Body (no. 0071) for implementation of the conformity assessment modules of Directive 2004/22/EC concerning measuring instruments.

• The Directive covers ten categories of measuring instruments:
- Water meters
- Gas meters and volume conversion devices
- Active electrical energy meters
- Heat meters
- Measuring systems for continuous and dynamic measurement of quantities of liquids other than water
- Automatic weighing instruments
- Taximeters
- Material measures
- Dimensional measuring instruments
- Exhaust gas analysers
in all cases manufacturers may choose between various conformity assessment procedures.

• LNE is also the body designated by France's Ministry of Industry to implement the French regulations applying to controlled measuring instruments.
